Titles & missions

How progression, mission ranks, and cosmetic titles fit together on Otaku Shinden.

Level vs titles

XP and level measure overall activity: you earn XP from quizzes, events, activities, and achievements. Your level goes up as your total XP grows. That is separate from titles.

Titles are optional profile flair. You unlock titles when your stats satisfy each title's rules (see below). You choose one equipped title on your profile— or none. Equipping does not change your XP or level.

Mission ranks (D–S)

Content can be labeled with a mission rank from D (easiest band) through S (hardest band). Look for badges like Mission C on events, quizzes, and season activities. That label tells you which mission clear bucket grows when you complete the matching action (D, C, B, A, or S).

Standalone quizzes may fall back to a rank inferred from difficulty if no rank is stored; events and activities use the rank set for that content.

How you earn mission clears

Each line below adds one to the counter for that rank (for example, one more toward your D-rank total when the content was labeled D).

  • Events (contest / collaboration): your first submission to that event counts once. The rank is the event's mission rank.
  • Standalone quizzes (from the quiz list): your first completed attempt on that quiz counts once. The rank is the quiz's mission rank.
  • Season activities (general): when you participate in the current week (submit response or equivalent), you get one clear at the activity's mission rank.
  • Weekly quiz activities (QUIZ_DAILY): finishing the week's quiz run counts once for that week. The clear uses the activity's mission rank — not the linked quiz's rank alone. On the activity page, follow the activity badge for title progression.

Other stats used for titles

Besides mission clears, default title rules can look at:

  • Submissions — total event entries you have submitted.
  • Quizzes — total distinct quizzes you have completed at least once.
  • Event wins — entries marked as winners on events.
  • Activity wins — participations marked as winners on season activities.
  • Combined wins — some titles require event wins plus activity wins added together to reach a threshold.

B-rank mission clears are tracked too; the built-in default examples below focus on D, C, A, and S clears plus the stats above. Custom titles added by admins may use other combinations.

Default title examples

These examples match the default unlock rules shipped in the product (by title slug). Operators can override rules in Admin; if something does not match what you see in-game, an admin may have customized that title.

Slug (internal)You need (all of)
academy-studentAt least 1 D-rank mission clear.
d-rank-specialistAt least 25 D-rank mission clears.
geninAt least 3 D-rank mission clears, and at least one event submission or one completed quiz (any rank).
chuninAt least 5 C-rank mission clears, and at least 2 completed quizzes.
joninAt least 5 A-rank mission clears, and at least 3 activity wins.
kageAt least 1 S-rank mission clear, and at least 8 combined event wins + activity wins.

Equipping a title

After a title unlocks, it appears in your unlocked list on your profile. Open Profile, use Display title, choose the title (or "None"), then Save title. Other players see your equipped title on your public profile next to your level.

FAQ

Why did my mission counter go up but I did not get a title?
Most titles require every condition in the rule set. For example, Genin needs both D clears and a submission-or-quiz condition. Check the table above and your profile mission line for progress.
Can I lose a title?
Unlocks are granted when you qualify; they are not removed when stats change later. You can switch which title is equipped anytime from unlocked titles.
Where do I see my mission clears?
On your private profile under Experience, and as a compact line on public profiles when progression data is shown.
